The Rutgers University Newark Campus Bus/Shuttle Service has various routes to provide reliable and safe transportation to certain schools and destinations with the City of Newark. The Newark area Campus Bus/Shuttle Service is provided to any person (student, faculty, staff) affiliated with Rutgers University (Newark, Camden, or New Brunswick), New Jersey of Institute of Technology [NJIT], Essex County College, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, and University Hospital. There is no bus fare however an affiliated person must show their valid ID (that indicates that you are a student, faculty, or staff member of the college/institution) to the bus driver in order to board the Rutgers Newark Campus Bus/Shuttle.
Rutgers University does not provide bus service between Rutgers New Brunswick and Rutgers Newark. The NJ Transit “Northeast Corridor” trains provide frequent service between the New Brunswick and Newark train stations. Shuttle/bus service is provided locally within the Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus to/from the New Brunswick Train Station and locally within the Rutgers Newark Campus area to/from Newark Penn Station.
Items of value lost in a Rutgers Newark Campus Bus will be turned over to the Rutgers Police Department [RUPD]-Newark Division. Please contact them at 973-353-2522 to inquire about any lost and found items.

The “Campus Connect” route is designated to connect the various institutions in Newark. It will serve Rutgers University Newark, NJIT, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Newark Campus, University Hospital, Essex County College, and Broad Street station. This route is in service Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 11:30 PM.
Newark Penn Station Local
The “Penn Station Local” route provides transportation to and from Newark Penn Station out to the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Newark Campus, University Hospital, NJIT, and the Rutgers Newark Campus (via Blumenthal Hall). This route will operate Monday through Friday from 6:45 AM until 12:15 AM.
Newark Penn Station Express
This is an express version of the “Penn Station Local” Route, providing frequent service only between Newark Penn Station, the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Newark Campus and University Hospital during the AM and PM peak/rush hour periods. This route operates Monday through Friday mornings 7:00 AM until 10:00 AM, and afternoons from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. There is no “Penn Station Express” bus service between 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and after 7:00 PM.
This route services the Rutgers University Newark Campus, NJIT, and various areas throughout neighboring Kearny and Harrison; including the Kmart & Shoprite stores located in Kearny. This route operates Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
