As part of an ongoing multi-year screening process, REHS is testing some apartments on various campuses to evaluate radon concentrations. Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless radioactive gas. There is no state or federal requirements for the University to test student housing for radon. This is a pro-active effort on the part of Rutgers University.

For more information on radon, please visit the EPA’s web site at www.epa.gov/radon.

If your apartment has been selected for testing, you will see a small, black cylinder hanging from the ceiling in the hallway of your apartment. Signs have been posted on the wall next to the radon test to inform the residents of its presence.

Sample notice to Housing Residents

The test should not interfere with your normal living activities. Please do not remove it or change it’s location.
