When working on an unprotected walking/working surfaces that is six feet or greater above the next lower level, Fall Protection must be provided. Fall Protection is a system designed to protect employees from the risk of falls while on an elevated surface during construction/renovation activities. The system includes, but are not limited to, guardrails, lifelines, full-body harness use in conjunction with lanyard, lifelines, safety nets and fall arrest systems. Construction/renovation activities that required fall protection systems include, but are not limited to, roof work, building interior as well as exterior work, excavations, theater scene setups and wall and floor openings.

All university employees and contractors working at the conditions described above must follow fall protection standards outlined by federal, state regulatory agencies. REHS offers assistance in evaluating fall protection issues.
