What is a university physical master plan? Why do we need one, and who is it for?

A university physical master plan is a synthesis of educational objectives and the physical development of the campus. A physical master plan assesses an institution’s physical environment, identifying where academic goals are aligned with its facilities, and where there are opportunities for further development. The plan then takes that assessment and creates strategies to guide the implementation of the institution’s long-term goals.

The university is currently under way with its strategic plan, which aims to redefine the university’s mission and direction for the next five years. The university physical master plan will complement the strategic plan’s mission and vision, providing specific strategies to help Rutgers achieve its goals through the transformation of its physical environment. The university physical master plan is for the entire Rutgers community.

How long will the university physical master planning process take?

The university physical master planning process is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2015.
